Fallon Clinic Welcomes New Chair to Board of Trustees

WORCESTER, Mass., January 07, 2009 — Fallon Clinic, the largest multi-specialty group practice in Central Massachusetts, has announced that Robert A. Yood, M.D. is the new chairman of its Board of Trustees.  Dr. Yood replaces Dr. Stephen Pezzella, M.D., who completed his term as chair in December, 2008.  Dr. Pezzella remains the department chair of medical specialties at Fallon Clinic.

Dr. Yood currently serves as chief of rheumatology and as the physician director of the department of research at Fallon Clinic.  He is also a professor of clinical medicine at the University of Massachusetts (UMASS) Medical School and chief of the division of rheumatic diseases and musculoskeletal medicine at Saint Vincent Hospital.  In addition, Dr. Yood chairs the Committee on Ethics and Conflicts of Interest for the American College of Rheumatology and was previously a member of its finance committee and Board of Trustees.  He sits on the Public Policy Committee of the American Group Practice Association (AMGA) and serves in leadership capacities with other organizations, including the Worcester District Medical Society where he is a member of the legislative committee.

Dr. Yood has received numerous awards and honors.  He has been honored with the Paulding Phelps Award from the American College of Rheumatology. He also has been recognized by Fallon Clinic with both “Teacher of the Year” and “Researcher of the Year” awards.  Dr. Yood has authored and contributed to over fifty healthcare journal articles, primarily relating to rheumatic disease.

Dr. Yood earned a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and received his medical degree from Oregon Health and Science University.  Dr. Yood’s internship and residency programs were fulfilled at University of Wisconsin Hospitals.  He completed his fellowship in rheumatology from the Boston University School of Medicine.  Dr. Yood currently resides in Worcester, MA.
