Dr. Robert Black is the Chief of the Nephrology Division at Fallon Clinic. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Yale University Medical School and his nephrology fellowship at Massachusetts General and Brigham and Women’s Hospitals in Boston. He has been a nephrologist at Fallon Clinic since finishing his training.

Dr. Black enjoys working closely with his patients, making them feel at ease. “I always try to be optimistic with our patients who have kidney disease. Although these can be serious illnesses, we can treat many of them. While some people will require dialysis or kidney transplantation, treatment may prevent or delay its onset.”

Dr. Black treats patients for a variety of kidney disorders and kidney-related problems including high blood pressure, kidney failure, kidney transplantation as well as kidney stones and dialysis. Asked why he chose nephrology as a career, Dr. Black recalls, “When I trained, some of the most prominent Chiefs of Medicine as well as some of the most well-rounded physicians I knew were nephrologists. They impressed me as being very knowledgeable and talented physicians.”

In addition to the clinical practice of nephrology, Dr. Black’s department is also engaged in a number of clinical research studies. The results of these trials should help determine the best treatment for future patients. Dr. Black has written numerous research articles as well as book chapters on nephrology. He has also written two nephrology textbooks and teaches at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he is a Professor of Clinical Medicine.
