Dr. Sanjeev Goyal started his medical career as an internist, but is now a practicing cardiologist at Fallon Clinic who specializes in cardiac electrophysiology (the study of the heart’s electrical system). “My interest in cardiology developed when I was practicing as an internist,” he recalls. “I saw many patients who had chronic heart conditions, which can be difficult to treat. Now as a cardiologist, I can use my expertise to help these types of patients.” Dr. Goyal has enjoyed his transition from an internist to a heart rhythm specialist. “To me, it’s one of the few fields of medicine where you can really cure medical conditions instead of just treating them. It presents a great opportunity to improve a patient’s quality of life, which I find very satisfying.”
After practicing in Michigan for five years, Dr. Goyal is making the most of the resources he has at Fallon Clinic. “I’ve had the experience of practicing medicine in other parts of our country. Doing so has made me realize that the techniques and practices here at Fallon Clinic are really top-notch,” he comments. “For example, the speed and efficiency of our Electronic Medical Record system really does help us deliver better patient care.” Dr. Goyal also enjoys the ability to collaborate with other Fallon Clinic physicians. “If you have a question, there’s a lot of collective knowledge you can tap into right here at our facilities.”
Inspired by his uncle who was a practicing internist, Dr. Goyal knew from a young age he wanted to be a physician, “I remember as a child watching my uncle work and seeing him interact with his patients. I could see how they respected his ability and knowledge…there’s no doubt he was a big influence on my career as a physician.”
In his spare time, Dr. Goyal enjoys spending time with his wife and son, playing tennis, and helping his 6 year-old son learn to play the violin. He is also an avid stamp collector and presently has over 10,000 stamps in his collection. “I really enjoy it, stamps are not only wonderful to look at, but there’s a lot of history behind them too. Not to mention it’s a nice, relaxing hobby for a busy cardiologist.”
